Fitting words from Joseph Fitzmyer.

"I do not think that the NPP has moved Pauline studies forward in any sense. It is simply an unconvincing aspect of Pauline interpretation that has attracted some students."

Thank the Lord for this breath of sanity! I thought every Biblical scholar was going to be duped into studying Paul vis-a-vis his 1st century Jewish context. It is just so great to see that someone understands that Paul must be read in the context of 16th century Roman Catholicism.

You clearly have not read a page by Fitzmyer. The guy flecks his commentaries with 1st century primary sources. More than any other commentator I know of (with the possible exception of Craig Keener).
